Dispersion Prisms are used in applications that require separating the incident light into its component wavelengths. For example, when white light enters a Dispersion Prism, it is separated into its three components: red, green, and blue. Dispersion Prisms are ideal for spectroscopy or laser tuning.

Edmund Optics offers the world’s largest inventory of off-the-shelf optical components, including Dispersion Prisms. Edmund Optics’ Dispersion Prisms are available uncoated, or with reflection or anti-reflection coatings. Dispersion Prisms are also available in multiple substrates that are ideal for Infrared (IR) applications. Infrared (IR) substrates include Calcium Fluoride (CaF2), Germanium (Ge), or Zinc Selenide (ZnSe). Calcium Fluoride (CaF2) is a low index material featuring excellent transmission from 0.19 - 7μm, ideal for use in the Ultraviolet (UV) through Infrared (IR). Germanium (Ge) is is a high index material, ideal for maximizing optical paths from 3 - 12μm. Zinc Selenide (ZnSe) is commonly used from 1 - 16μm, ideal for use with CO2 lasers.
